the second of this year’s smd singles on their own delicacies label is features another two original tracks, leading with the hypnotic, late night techno loping of “remember in reverse”, drenched in glistening synths. the second track, “soft attack” takes a much more direct approach, with a brash battering of crash cymbals on every 4th bar marking time as a sinuous synth melody curls around the rhythmatic trunk. “soft attack (drum version)” pares it down even further, excising the melody for a minimal dj tool. also included here is a remix of ‘remember in reverse” from 90s mid west techno legend, dj hyperactive, who we’re super excited to have on this release. he extensive 11 minute rework transforms the track, sprinkling it with subtle doses of acid. after a short hiatus following their modular-only, desert recorded last album “whorl”, during which smd s james ford found himself on production duties for everyone and their dog, smd are back with bunch of techno cuts on their own delicacies label. over a couple of months in jas shaw s newly re-located synth-dense studio in leafy kent, which saw smd once again experiment with live jams as the basis for their production, they’ve pulled together a selection of eight tracks for release as a series of four singles over the coming months. smd fans will note that the earlier naming convention of delicacies has fallen by the wayside – for the simple reason that we’ve pretty much run out of weird and wonderful food stuffs to steal names from. instead, a semi-random automated process has been used to create the track names.

“ode to eskapism” is dedicated to all of those that use techno as a way in to escapism. to those that use techno as a mental diversion from the perceived unpleasant, boring, arduous, scary, or banal aspects of daily life. those that cannot subsist on the scanty satisfaction they can extort from reality alone. those that feel the need to dissociate from reality in order to experience it. to all of those that emerges recreated, stronger and full of life after a weekend escape into techno. the label bond is the brainchild of swedish techno dj and producer petter b. the concept of the label is “music by djs for djs”. the label focuses on releasing tracks that enable the dj, rather than the producer, to be creative. it is based on that special bond which is created every time a dj combines tracks, loops and sounds live into something new and unique.

laate is the new project of clayton guifford (unrelated / fragil). for this second release, we are very glad to welcome - the black tone - (rawthencity / appian).- circadian attraction e<p - is just as ethereal as abyssal tone records, where nagging mpc s swing and reverberation s effects are placing great emphasis on minimalist compositions, strictly dedicated to the dancefloor.on a side: - circadian attraction ep - is backed by a dynamic rhythm with analog tones. a meticulous architecture temple where time stop. a techno recital of limpid beauty gliding on a groovy bassline that will make every soundsystem whirr.on b1: - aquatic redox - is a plunging us into deep submarine daydreams. a digital bath with salty taste and hypnotic dampness. everything is a quiet, question & answers between the different elements are bouncing over and over in the atmosphere, constantly captivating the attention. a perfect balance between strength and subtlety. finally on b2, - aquatic redox - s remix is released by the famous producer: janeret (rutilance /aku). after an -haute-couture- intro, slightly breaked, we find in this remix the galactic synths typical of the talented young parisian’s repertoire. clear, precise and extremely mastered, this rework put everyone in agreement on the dancefloor.

these two young guns from amsterdam promise to leave a big mark on the scene. their fresh interpretation of classic us house convinces with soulful vocals, stomping beats and surprising breaks. on their debut ep, soultage delivers with old school love and soulful damage two house anthems, which will definitely make every peak time dancefloor go boom. to warm up the place in the earlier hours, the duo recommends a swinging groove and jazzy trumpet. to round things up we find let s play house maestro jacques renault on remix duties, who turns soulful damage into a percussive dub monster. say what? house music all night long!

stone cold classic, although pastime paradise has been reissued a couple of time on compilations every single reissue has used the rocky lp version which is not nearly as good as the original 7inch cut. as we at athens of the north like to do things right we went back to the sony tape vault and had the 7- version transferred for the first time since the o.g 45 was cut. this 45 sounds fantastic, much stronger then the o.g 45 cut so its a no brainer. on the flip we took one of our favourite track from the lp and introduced it to 7inch for the first time, mambotango is a dreamy sountracky latin disco number i used to spin on warm up duty, very new york.

reissue of an eye for an eye by byrne & barnes: a true westcoast/aor masterpiece, produced in legendary music city muscle shoals (alabama) and originally only released on japanese label climax. in 1981, robert byrne followed up to his 1979 album, blame it on the night, by teaming-up with multi-instrumentalist brendan barnes to record this rare westcoast classic. if they never recorded any other music together, both display incredible music career and went on to produce for many famous artists such as pointer sisters, patti austin, earth wind & fire, phil collins, brian mcknight, or boyz ii men to name just a few.

hieroglyphic being and deviere team up for some proper nuts mathematics acid. they really go to town on the 303s in these, every sound seems to spiral on the brink of aciiiiiiid induced chaos. proper squelch nearing the rave-tastic highs of evol and alku, but held together with a strict chicago schooling.

quite a few months have passed since adam port released his last original material on keinemusik. it’s been almost too long. but then again, every expert will confirm, you won’t see a “sonnenfinsternis” every other week. port’s new ep is going under the name of that very astronomical curiosity and accordingly, the like-titled cut on a can only be the result of a rare cosmic constellation. it starts with a spoken word field recording. could it be, someone secretly recorded parts of the internal pre-release labelmeeting? we’ll leave that to your imagination. but then, all solid facts. a forceful beat, decorated with hihat-hiss, stoically pounding synthbass, rattling snare-staccato and space-opening synth-layers. finally, some siren’s wailing, just in case someone didn’t get the immediacy of this material. classy floor substance, that is, with the scarcity value of an eclipse. “working for it”, as the first track on the flipside, is rather going for the deeper realms. this coproduction with jennifer touch, a singer/producer that just moved from leipzig to berlin, is built up on a cosy, warm synth-priming, that touch congenially contrasts with her undercooled wavy vocals. an emotional rollercoaster, if you will.
